“This has been a remarkable collaboration and friendship.” – Professor Paddy Dewan
Professor Paddy Dewan’s recent visit to Paradise Private Hospital (PPH) marked a significant milestone, highlighting the hospital’s commitment to delivering tertiary-level healthcare services in Papua New Guinea.
Professor Dewan spent a week at PPH, which he described as a “fabulous and challenging week”, operating on 7children, all of whom are currently recovering well.
PPH Chief Executive Officer Dr. Polapoi Chalau described the visit as both an honor and a historic moment for the hospital.
“Professor Dewan is no stranger to PNG. Since 1993, he has remained deeply connected to the country, serving with the same purpose over three decades,” Dr. Chalau said.
“Ten years ago, we developed a corporate plan focused on building PPH into a centre of excellence. Today, with the commitment of our owners and staff, we are proud to say we are achieving that vision.
“Your visit is a divine plan for the children of PNG,” he added.
The visit also sparked important discussions on the future of specialized healthcare in the country, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds, with plans underway, through a partnership with Kind Cuts for Kids Australia, to continue supporting patients and to facilitate Professor Dewan’s biannual visits to PNG.
Professor Dewan said the goal is to ensure children in PNG receive quality surgical care within their own country, delivered by surgeons trained in PNG.
In addition to the seven surgeries performed, 14 patients were reviewed, including some who had previously undergone treatment dating back to 1993.
Director Finance & Admin, Mrs Janet Sios said the hospital looks forward to creating opportunities for continued surgical training and mentorship.
